I’m saying “we” because I am including myself. I have joined challenges and struggled then there are others where I have been successful. So today I want to share the best ways to increase your chances of success with your next challenge.
No matter what a person’s level of fitness is, exercise is beneficial. You can lose weight, gain energy, fight disease, boost your mood, improve sleep quality, improve your sexual health, and self-esteem to name a few.
Now that you are all pumped up about the benefits let’s get you set for success!
Preparing & Organizing
Proper preparation is half of the battle and key in everything you do. The first thing is to prepare your mind. One of my favorite sayings is “If you want to train your body you must first train your mind.” If you are not prepared mentally for the task at hand you will not be successful.
To mentally prepare set small obtainable goals, envision yourself meeting your goal. Think about how that feels and keep it at the forefront of your mind to help gain momentum.
Establish an accountability partner and keep in constant contact with them to motivate and push one another. Accountability partners are great to have not just to push you but as someone to workout with as well.
Create a schedule and determine what you are going to do to remove the guesswork. This will also increase your chances of accomplishing your goal. Studies have also shown that when you add exercise into your schedule making it part of your daily routine along with work or school you increase your chances for success.
Workout Gear & Accessories
Now that you are mentally prepared and have worked out your schedule, its time to look at shoes, and proper clothing. There are so many different types of shoes running, walking, cycling. Whatever activity you plan to do make sure that you have proper shoes to help prevent injury, provide comfort, and flexibility.
Clothing is equally as important, especially if you are exercising outside. Ensure that you are prepared for the weather and dressed warm but light for movement. Wear neon reflective clothing for safety. Proper clothing can also improve performance, especially for swimmers when focusing on speed.
Fitness trackers are great tools to have to track your steps, calories burned, and distance. Some trackers will also monitor your heart rate and sleep quality. Fitness trackers also serve as motivators reminding you to get up and move. Some trackers offer the capability to sync with friends creating a competitive edge and increasing performance.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a specific fitness tracker, most people have some of those capabilities on their phones. Cardio equipment also keeps track of calories and distance. Many outdoor trails have mile markers keeping you aware of your distance traveled.
Have a large water bottle, earbuds, a gym bag, and a towel. These items are useful when exercising away from the home.
