The Vegetable That Keeps on Giving

Other fruits and vegetables have some of the same nutrients, so I can just eat those? Well…believe it or not, this little earthy vegetable is a gift that keeps on giving.

Headaches: Beets are rich in nitrates. Nitric oxide is a compound that relaxes and dilates blood vessels resulting in improved circulation and lower blood pressure.  Oxygen-rich blood is able to more openly flow through the veins, which may reduce some headaches, such as tension-vascular headaches. These headaches occur when blood vessels in the brain constrict and the blood isn’t able to flow through the veins properly.

High Blood Pressure: Potassium and Nitrates help with relaxing blood vessels which may reduce high blood pressure.

Liver: The liver is cleansed because of betaine, an amino acid found in beets that reduce fat in the liver.

Preventing Cancer:  Pancreatic, breast, and prostate cancer may be prevented because phytonutrients ward off cancer and reduce multi-organ tumor formations.

Betalains fight free radicals and inflammation-related chronic diseases because they are full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.

Betacyanin has a purple pigment in it, which protects against common carcinogens. Studies are also being tested about beets fighting against breast cancer cells.

Most diseases live in an acidic environment, eat Beets to balance pH levels and alkaline the body. The body’s goal is to be slightly alkaline and many whole foods like fruits and vegetables help to achieve this including Beets.

Additional Benefits of Beets

Other medical conditions Beets may help fight are acidosis, anemia, atherosclerosis, constipation, dandruff, detox, gastric ulcers, gall bladder, kidney ailments, and varicose veins.

Studies show that Beets may boost endurance, stamina and help with muscle recovery. Nitric Oxide gives oxygen to muscles, therefore, drinking a glass may give a competitive advantage and give you that extra push to the finish line.

High levels of boron may increase the production of sexual hormones, as a result, beets can be viewed as an aphrodisiac. Boron can also boost your libido and increase fertility and sperm mobility.

Roasted beets are a family fav! We adore them so much so that I have them growing in my garden right now. Great info

Hi Macy, I am personally not a fan of Beets but knowing the health benefits that they provide makes me incorporate them into my diet. I do better with juicing them or putting them in a smoothie. I have tried putting them on a salad, cooking them in my air-fryer, I’ve sauteed them and roasted them in the oven. I think I will stick to the juicing and smoothies. Thank you for sharing.
