Superfoods! Are they really super? What are they?

Superfoods! Are they really super? What are they?

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

I will present two views on whether super foods are really super. I will also share my opinion and provide a list of foods identified as “Superfoods”.

Are “Superfoods” Really Super?

Antioxidant rich foods

Antioxidant rich foods

Foods such as Blueberries and Pomegranates have been known as “Superfoods” for many years. With their high antioxidant concentrations, heart rate slowing properties, cancer and heart disease fighting abilities, it is easy to see why they have been labeled as “Superfoods”.

These kinds of foods often offer such an abundance of nutrients that other foods don’t all while tasting great. Being labeled a “Superfood” means that the particular food meets certain characteristics.

On the other hand, are these foods all so super? It is hard to compare a lab testing setting to real life. This makes it even harder to incorporate these foods into your diet.

Because many of these foods need to be consumed often and in large quantities to reap the full effects, it becomes extremely difficult for someone to follow a diet mainly composed of “Superfoods”.

Looking at a singular study conducted in a lab doesn’t represent the full effect of the superfood being tested. Humans eat a variety of foods every day, which make is near impossible to track the benefits one food has on someone.

My Opinion

In my opinion, yes, there are “Superfoods”. I believe you need a variety of “Superfoods” so create “Superplates” and eat those plates often. Incorporate several fruits, vegetables, and whole foods to create a healthier eating lifestyle.

Just because you have to eat them, doesn’t make them any less super. These foods offer something unique to the consumer, and even if the effects are short term, they are still helpful in daily life.
